And he thinks that something will also change in the law firms’ panorama. Question: How Nuesto 2009 will be for the Italian pmis? Answer: It won't be an easy year, but surely will be an occasion for a deep renewal, that starts from the necessity to slim the operational costs. Q: In which direction goes the change in action? A: To answer to the challenges of this crisis, the Italian pmi are looking for new and more efficient models. Today, the firms do not consider anymore the fixed costs as invariable because they structure the production on the basis of the sold, on the orders. With advantages that could be exploited in the next years. Q: What type of advantages? A: Who will have the strength to remain on the market can count on a greater profitability and it will also have the possibility to make important investments. Q: Goaded by the crisis, do the pmi look more abroad? A: Yes, but it is a trend already initiated in the last two years. The maturity of the Italian market had already pushed a lot of firms to look over the national borderlines, especially in East Europe. These countries are still interesting, because politically are more stable to face the employment costs, still relatively low.
Q: In which domains are the firms more interested abroad? R. In particular, the real estate ones, that still offer interesting opportunities in countries as Russia, Ukraine and Bulgaria. But also those of the public work division, that creates good borders in countries as Turkey and still East Europe, Russia and Ukraine.
Q: And how is the law firms’ world changing? A: In legal assistance’s field the crisis effects are feeling in different profiles. The importance of departments as m & a and the real estate ones is minor, if compared to those that take care of legal departments, the reorganizations and the tax facets. Besides, the fees are lower, are more often linked to the attainment of specific objectives. Beyond, different law firms are interested in cases of internal reorganization. The best-paid collaborators, often acquire the rank of partners for instance, so they also share the business risks.
